Moez Echargui practice session with Novak Djokovic at Indian Wells Stadium One

Qualifyers

Moez faced the No. 6 seed in the first round of the qualifying draw, Argentine Roman Andres Burruchaga, currently ranked No. 96 in the ATP rankings.

It was a hard-fought match that ended 7-6, 4-6, 7-6 for his opponent. It’s a pity, because at times Moez played outstanding tennis — often at a higher level than his rival — even without showing his absolute best. In the first set, he served at 4-2 up, and again at 4-3 in the third, but couldn’t quite capitalise on those key moments.

Despite the loss, the match gave us plenty of valuable insights to keep improving. The very next day we were back on court and had the opportunity to train for an hour with Novak Djokovic on the Indian Wells main stadium court.

The experience of sharing the court with players of this level is, above all, inspiring and emotional. It shows you that your level is high, helps you gain confidence, and reassures you that you’re on the right path. And doing it the day after a tough loss makes it even more special — it motivates you to keep believing and to keep dreaming.

The goal now is to continue on this path of growth. Our next stop will be Monday, March 9, in Punta Cana, where Moez will compete in the Challenger 175.
